Text Box: The dances in this this book arose out of the fact that some children in school who had never danced before, found even the dances in "Dancing Feet" rather difficult.
These dances therefore involve very simple movements such as:
standing still and clapping in time
walking in time
stamping in time
as well as skipping
The formations to be taught have been reduced from the 18 outlined in "Dancing Feet", to 11 in "Clapyerhands".
I have also given this book a theme in that all the dances reflect aspects of Robert the Bruce and the Battle of Bannockburn.
Robert the Bruce
William Wallace or "Braveheart"
Stirling Castle
Bannockburn
This will give the dances added interest for classes of children and teachers.
The movements of each of the dances represent aspects of events involved in the title.
Each dance has a page of information about its particular title and a picture which teachers can use to tell the story of the dance and give children a copy to keep.
A CD, produced by Bill Jacob, of Peter Elmes and his Band goes with the book so that as far as schools are concerned it is a kit -
"Ready to Go".
